“Claudio Monteverdi Choir, Kyoto”

on 59th Regular Concert at “ALTI” - the Art Live Theater International, KYOTO - . 29. Jul. 2017

“Claudio Monteverdi Choir, Kyoto” was originally founded in 1972, in a Japanese old cultural city “Kyoto”, and has brought there the most beautiful pieces until now.

As shown on the choir’s name, the core of their activities is performing of C. Monteverdi’s compositions and introducing his great works to the audiences in Japan. They are continuously introducing his great works such as “Vespro della Beata Vergine”, bright madrigals, solemn motets, and prayerful masses in their regular concerts since 1992.

Their music director, Shuichi TOMA, is one of the most gifted conductors in Japan, and rediscovers the value of the baroque music that comes over today. Along his musical faith, to embody the human’s primordial spirits, their activities extend not only to baroque, but also to variety of styles, from Renaissance to contemporary.

In the past concerts, they sang “O Magnum Mysterium” by G. Gabrieli, “Miserere” by Gregorio Allegri, “Requiem” by T. L. de Victoria, some motets by J. S. Bach, “Passions Motetten” by H. Schütz, John Rutter, and, of course many Japanese choral pieces.
